According to the Tavalon website, this is the drink of choice you want to turn to when you get a cold. Teaching inevitably brings about sickness for me and this year my students are starting early with catching something and spreading it to me. I can feel myself fighting off whatever is being passed around and so I figured this would be a great time to try Tavalon’s Tealixir. This herbal tisane is a blend of ginger, orange peel, mint, and eucalyptus. It gives off a soft medicinal smell dry and more of a minty smell once it has been steeped.I steeped this for 5 minutes in water that was boiling and used 1 teaspoon for 8oz of water. Upon taking my first few sips I noticed the ginger stuck out the most to me with the mint fighting for attention. I could also detect a little bit of the eucalyptus but couldn’t find any orange flavor. And despite the strong ingredients this has, I felt the taste wasn’t as potent as I had hoped. I really wanted a tea that sort of knocked the yuckiness right out of me.
I did feel that my head cleared a little while drinking this and my breath was minty fresh but I can’t say I felt “better”. I would have liked this to be stronger if it is going to be a wellness type tea made to specifically aid in helping one feel better when suffering with a cold. This had quite a bit of potential but fell short for me. I don’t think this was bad per say, but not what I was hoping it would be. And just to clarify, I wasn't expecting this to make me 100% better (I don't think any tea can do that), but I was crossing my fingers it would help a little.
