jingboheahongchaIt has been an utterly beautiful weekend here in the Northwest but for some reason; I just can’t seem to build up any ambition today. Perfect time to savor a good strong black tea. It’s for just such an occasion that I have been saving my sample of JING Organic Bohea Lapsong Supreme. This is a tea that you can just see the strength coming thru with wiry tea leaves of a rich deep brown/black coloring. The scent reminds me of wandering thru our old growth pine forests here in Washington.

I set my Zarafina for the black setting on medium strength and used two teaspoons of tea for my 16 ounce mug. Once brewed, the tea pours out a deep burnished topaz color and the scent of smoke is even stronger. Now however the scent almost reminds me of peat fires in Ireland rather than pine. The taste is much more difficult to describe. Pungent and smokey is what comes to mind but those aren’t really tastes. It is a full dark taste with a hint of sweetness. I am one that sweetens my black tea but I cut back on the amount I use by three quarters due to the Organic Bohea Lapsong Supreme’s natural sweetness. The smokiness however is just a tad too strong for my tastes though.

This is the first time that I have tried a Bohea Lapsong but it will be far from my last. I just need to find one that is a bit weaker. I very much enjoyed drinking this tea and I can only imagine that a fan of Bohea Lapsong would be in heaven. And the fact that it is certified organic is just another feather in this tea’s cap. While I don’t see getting any to stock my tea cupboard but I do recommend JING’s Organic Bohea Lapsong Supreme as it is a top quality tea.

Oh and Organic Bohea Lapsong Supreme did its job and woke me up. I am curious though as the website states that it only has moderate caffeine. What would be considered a high caffeine tea? Even the breakfast teas are only listed as having a moderate amount of caffeine.
