While I was drinking this tea, I imagined the cute little tea shop that is described on the main page of their web site. "We are a quaint retail shop, specializing in premium loose teas, fine boxed teas, British imports, beautiful bone china teapots and tea accessories. Also serving hot tea, iced tea and bubble tea to go. We are located in the harbor town of Port Jefferson, NY within a community of other specialty shops." I haven't heard much about You, Me and Tea before, but their prices are reasonable, this tea is only $4.00 an ounce and is currently on sale for $3, and I think I will check out more of their products in the future.
As far as the tea goes, I really love a good English or Irish Breakfast tea in the morning. This one in particular is very strong and bitey with a very nutty flavor. It definitely needs to be served with sugar and milk. I'm not sure how it would taste otherwise. I'm not sure if this is just a natrually strong tea, or if I just brewed it too long but my roommate found it too strong for her to drink and gave it to me. She is normally into sweeter or herbal flavored teas, so it makes sense, I very much enjoyed my second cup.
I brewed it as a typical black tea, boiled water then steeped the leaves for about 5 minutes or so and added some raw sugar and milk. It might have added a little bit more if I had half and half, but we only had skim so I had to make due. It was a really pretty color in my tea cup, it had a dark, almost amethyst sort of quality to it before my additions. My advice: if you don't like strong tea, watch the steeping time on this one.
