Thumbs up!"While I enjoyed the pairing of almond and vanilla, the poor oolong kind of got lost in the mix. I think the almond and vanilla ingredients used in this blend would have been even better if blended with a hearty black tea that could stand up to these srong flavors. "

bostonoolongvanillalmondBoston Tea Company's Vanilla Almond Oolongs is one of an increasing number of oolongs that successfully melds with flavors. I've probably said it about 56 times before, but I usually prefer my oolong straight up without any fruits, flowers, candies, nuts, spices, or anything else. So naturally I was cautious about this blend which contains almond, calendula petals, vanilla, and almond essence. The blend is quite attractive, consisting of large and loosely curled pieces of Chinese oolong mixed with a generous helping of toasted slivered almonds and flower petals. The aroma of this tea is a balance of toasted almond and vanilla, a combination that I found to be rather inviting. Like many oolongs, the volume of the tea leaves just about tripled, or perhaps quadrupled, during the infusion, so this is definitely a tea where you can use just a small bit of leaves and still make a decent cup of tea. The flavor of this tea is mostly that of the almond and has a nice toasty element. The almond flavor is rather strong, and as someone who likes, but doesn't love, almonds, I was hoping the flavor would have been a little more subdued or diluted. The vanilla is also fairly strong. While I enjoyed the pairing of almond and vanilla, the poor oolong kind of got lost in the mix. I think the almond and vanilla ingredients used in this blend would have been even better if blended with a hearty black tea that could stand up to these strong flavors. Still, this is a fairly interesting blend and for that reason, I still ranked it pretty high and would recommend others give it a try. However, I wouldn't recommend this to serious oolong connoisseurs, as the oolong itself really doesn't offer too much and it is the flavored aspect of this tea that makes it stand out.
