doublekoiraspberry"These organic green tea leaves have natural raspberry bits, and natural hibiscus flower petals. A marriage of delicate aromas and sensual flavor." ---Double Koi Tea website.

This is my first experience with Double Koi Tea. A few things that I noted on my virgin visit to their website is that they offer mostly plain tea blends which are accompanied by just a few flavored blends. They also offer free shipping on orders over $35. What can I say about raspberry flavored tea blends? They are everywhere and very few of them are any good in my opinion. When I received this sample package, I could see that it had a TON of little red pieces in it that I presumed to be dried raspberry pieces. It also had a very strong tart aroma that was a little off-putting to this girl, who is not the world's greatest fan of tart blends. I did not discover that this blend also contained the dreaded hibiscus until I actually sat down to work on this review. My concern obviously is that this blend will be way too tart.

I prepared this using water that had been brought to steaming and infused for 3 minutes. While I know that the website indicated that there is hibiscus in the blend, I saw mostly only dried raspberry pieces in my sample. The cup, however, brewed up to a color that I find synonymous with hibiscus blends though---a nice berry red. The flavor is somewhat tart, but not as tart as I feared. With a pinch of sweetener, the tea blend somehow does emulate the flavor of a raspberry and straddles the line between tart and sweet. The flavor profile is strong and I personally could not actually taste any contribution to the blend from the green tea. Just as I often ice most of my fruit tisanes, I decided to prepare the second half of my sample cup iced. While this wasn't bad as a hot drink, I definitely preferred the taste of this iced.

Just as many of the berry tisanes get dinged by me for their tartness, this one is also a bit tart. However, the raspberry taste is pretty good and I would rather drink some green tea than an herbal so this one is worth consideration. I'm not actually sure that this one will end up in my tea stash, but I wouldn't turn it down if you offered me another cup.
