teagbloodorangeOn a chilly and rainy fall day recently, I was looking for a beverage to cheer me up a bit.  I thought this herbal blend might be just the ticket.  TeaGschwendner’s Blood Orange is very lively and bright, and includes large pieces of apple and red beet that perfectly mirror the yellows, oranges, and reds associated with autumn.  Additional ingredients include orange and rosehip peel, freeze-dried orange pieces, hibiscus and safflower blossoms, natural flavor, orange and marigold blossoms.  It is absolutely beautiful and easily wins the award for “most likely to be confused with potpourri.”

The scent of the blend is heavy with citrus and is slightly powdery, making me think immediately of Tang.  It’s a very pleasant smell, one that warms you on a cold day such as this.  To prepare my cup I used two teaspoons in eight ounces of boiling water, with a seven minute steep.  The resulting liquid is a deep reddish/orange and carries the same strong citrus smell.  The taste is very true to the smell and is clearly orange.  This blend brews up surprisingly strong and makes a robust cup.  The finish is extremely sweet, in fact, a little too sweet for my liking.  Overall, if you enjoy citrus flavors, you would probably really like this.  My only concern is the overly sweet aftertaste that lingers long after each sip.  If that could be toned down a bit or even a little more tart, I would have enjoyed it much more.
