Cherryberry is one of five Pink Teas for Women’s Health offered through Zhena’s Gypsy Tea. Tea featured in the Pink line combines the antioxidants of “superberries” and green tea to create specialty blends specifically designed for women’s health. In addition to providing health benefits, the tea is contained in environmentally friendly sachets made from bio-degradable, GMO free, corn silk. A quick visit to the website explains the health benefits unique to each of the five blends in the line and a list of ingredients. This particular blend includes sencha, rosehips, Egyptian hibiscus flowers, licorice root, red cherries, cranberries, elderberries, and freeze-dried açai berries and flavors.Although presented in sachet form, plenty large pieces of berries and flowers were noticeable, so much so that the tea seemed to be outnumbered. The blend is a nice combination of reds, yellows, and greens and the smell is distinctly that of tart cherry. I was unable to find brewing instructions on the website so I used one sachet in water brought to a boil and allowed to cool briefly with a four minute steep. This produced a beautiful transparent pink liquid with a hint of berry scent.
This tea tasted very light with the most pronounced flavor coming from the multitude of berries present, although the berry taste overall was light as well. While sipping this tea, I was left feeling like I should have tried this with two sachets instead of the one. The berry scent is present when bringing the cup up to drink, but after taking a sip the berry flavor is far too light and it seems to disappear. It’s nice to see a sachet with quality, identifiable ingredients, but unfortunately I felt the tea fell a bit flat on flavor.
