This is my first sample from Boston Tea Co., and after looking at their website I see that they offer loose tea as well as tins of tea bags under the Bentley brand name. Oddly, the website offers no specific information about the origin of this tea or its composition (is it a blend of two or more varieties?). This tea is sold as 125 grams in a tin container with a see-through lid. My sample looked exactly as one would expect for black tea, and I can't remark that there was anything unique about the appearance. The dry blend has a wonderful aroma characterized by cocoa and toasty notes. After smelling the dry leaves, I was really looking forward to sampling the tea because the cocoa smell was fantastic. When brewed, this tea is very robust and certainly earns its name as a breakfast tea. Thanfully, the cocoa aroma does carry through into the taste. This tea's flavor is primarily one of chocolate and a mild fruitiness, perhaps apricot. I noticed that because this tea is so hearty, you can use fewer leaves than you normally would use for a black tea. This seems like a tea where you would have to experiment a few times to figure out the appropriate volume of tea leaves to produce your perfect cup. My last observation on the flavor of this tea is that it was just about begging for milk and sugar. On its own, this tea was so strong that it was almost harsh, but the addition of milk and sugar made it smoother and easy-drinking without taking away from the flavor. I appreciated the hearty aspect of this tea, and of course, any tea that even remotely resembles a natural cocoa or chocolate flavor is a winner for me. I wouldn't go so far as to say that this tea was the best I've had, but I would certainly recommend this to those looking for a potent morning pick-me-up brew.
