Although I have a fascination with traditional teaware, I also have a penchant for the weird. A few months ago I came across something unusual called a Teacarina. It is a both a teacup and a music instrument. I finally bit the bullet and splurged on one. The Teacarina features four variably sized holes on one side and one larger hole on the other. It is a nice sized cup, not too big and not too small. It is double walled so the outer surface of the cup stays relatively cool. Lacking any musical talents myself, the reactions I’ve gotten from those around me have ranged from amazement to annoyance. The included sheet music is relatively easy to follow but I think I will need a lot more tea and practice before they are recognizable as songs. I love the fact that this cup is both dishwasher and microwave safe. Wouldn’t these be fun to use for a music themed event at a modern tea room? I certainly think so.
