"We added some bits of dark chocolate, creamy caramel and yogurt pieces to create an exceptionally popular Chocolate Honeybush. Is there a better way to please all you sweet-toothed tea drinkers without all the calories? We don't think so!" ---Local Coffee + Tea website.Honeybush is something that we aren't sent a whole lot of here at Teaviews so whenever we get some I usually request a sample. Once upon a time, I tried a chocolate honeybush blend from somewhere, but it was fairly forgettable. That said, the description of this blend sounds delicious and, since I am being diligent about following my eating plan, I am hoping that this will squash my sweet tooth that wants to actually eat some chocolate.
An inspection of my sample package does find slivers of chocolate, bits of caramel and even a few rose petals. I prepared this with water that had been just brought to a boil and infused for about 7 min. I also added a pinch of rock cane sugar as I often do. Once the cup cooled a bit, I was greeted by a pleasant cup that is dominated by the honeybush flavor itself. There is a slight chocolate undertone to this that kind of flirts with your tastebuds prompting you to keep drinking it. I personally would have been more pleased to find a stronger chocolate flavor overall, but they can't please everyone. I also occasionally thought I tasted a bit of caramel but it was more likely all in my head. The yogurt referred to in their description was completely lost on my tongue.
The problem with this blend is that the description itself and all the little pieces of yummies make you salivate, but then the blend doesn't quite deliver what you were hoping for. That said, the blend is still pretty good and has just enough chocolate undertone to it to make it interesting. If you are a lover of honeybush or are looking to try one out, then this is not a bad choice. However, it will not satisfy a chocolate craving so don't go in with that expectation.
