"Aloe Vera is well known for its powerful immune-boosting properties and its ability to help fight infection. Sencha Aloe Vera is a delicate blend of green tea, aloe vera and pineapple pieces for a refreshing fruity taste." --- Tea Palace website.Normally I steer clear of anything that has Sencha in it. It is not one of my favorite green teas---mind you, there are ones that I dislike worse. However, when selecting samples to review, I came across this offering from Tea Palace and found it so unique that I had to try it! Aloe Vera in tea? Tea Palace is a London based company that has a very nice website in terms of being informational regarding health benefits of tea and common ingredients found in tea. Really it just reiterates what I already knew...tea is a delicious and healthy habit :). My sample smells a bit different probably due to the addition of the aloe vera?
I prepared this according to the instructions given on Tea Palace's website and used water that was cut short of boiling and infused the leaves for 3 min. When I took my first couple sips, I wasn't sure if I was gonna like this blend or not because it mostly just tasted of Sencha. However, as it cooled I was greeted by the pineapple flavor and the aloe vera. The aloe vera is hard to describe, but it works nicely with the tea base and pineapple. I want to say that it made my tongue tingle just a bit? The cup came to taste more like pineapple as it cooled. While there is a bit of vegetal in this, it is not overwhelming. The flavor profile is not too strong for those that actually like to taste the tea base. Speaking of the tea base, it seems like a decent Sencha offering. Now, I may be way off on that as I don't drink much Sencha, but I did not find it offensive as I occasionally have found some of its cousins. There is a touch of astringency to this one for those that are looking for that in their green tea.
This blend gets some serious brownie points from me for originality and exotic ingredients. I am always looking for something unique and delicious, and I think this qualifies. While it is not something that I would like reach for every day, it is definitely a unique blend that I would encourage others to add to their shopping cart when selecting blends from Tea Palace. One thing to note, is that shipping to the USA looks to be a smidge expensive and takes 7-10 days so be sure to allow adequate shipping time if giving this as a gift to someone for a specific occasion.
