"It has a certain splurge quality about it as well and with the presence of three varieties of vanilla beans it really takes this tea to the next level."

Le Palais Gourmet’s Special Reserve Extreme Vanilla is a delicious combination of Japanese sencha and three types of organic vanilla beans from Madagascar, Tahiti and Indonesia. Vanilla is a flavor that I usually associate with black tea varieties and this was a refreshing departure from the norm. The dry leaves are very robust and are a deep green color. The scent is very strong with vanilla, but what else would you expect from a blend called extreme vanilla? Although the scent is very powerful, the smell is wonderful and reminds me of vanilla extract. I was unable to find preparation recommendations on the Le Palais Gourmet website, so to prepare my cup I used one heaping teaspoon in eight ounces of water. My water temperature was around 180° and I allowed the tea to steep for two minutes.
I was a bit concerned about the strength of the vanilla but surprisingly the flavors blend together very nicely. The vanilla is very pronounced, yet the cup drinks very smooth, leaving a delicious lingering aftertaste. This would be a great tea to have while relaxing after a long day of work. It has a certain splurge quality about it as well and with the presence of three varieties of vanilla beans it really takes this tea to the next level. If you enjoy a strong vanilla flavor, you must try this tea.
