rishisilver.jpgThe last year or so has been an oolong odyssey for me so it is nice to take a break every now and then to go back to basics. I had a hankering something mild so I picked up a tin of this tea at Whole Foods. There is nothing better than a clean and light white tea and this one is no exception. The dry leaves are fragrant and consisted almost entirely of whole buds. They are covered in the hairy down that one expects from a silver needle tea. I've recently developed the habit of taste testing dry leaves before drinking a tea. The leaves tasted exactly as the tea does, which I think is a good indication of the quality.

One of the reasons why I love silver needle is that it is practically fool proof. Unlike most other teas, temperature and steep time don't affect that taste of the tea all that much. This time around I just put some in the bottom of a wide cup and watched the leaves sink. I even left them in there while I sipped. This tea was sweet and floral but in a subtle way. I love the fact that this tea is certified organic. Because I drink so much tea, upwards of ten cups a day, pesticied residue is a major concern of mine. I would definately recommend this tea and will probably keep a tin on my tea shelf from now on.
