Tropical Green is a combination of Japanese sencha, pineapple, pineapple flavor, papaya, passion fruit flavor, rose petals, calendula, and safflowers. This blend is visually stunning, consisting of deep green sencha leaves, and wiry strands of red, orange, and yellow flowers. The fruit pieces are equal in size to those you find in trail-mix and I had a hard time not sampling one on it’s own. The scent is amazing as well, very bright and fruity, leaning mostly toward the passion fruit. The Zhi website is very helpful, providing steeping suggestions, product descriptions, associated health benefits, and tea legends for each individual tea on the site. It makes for interesting reading while waiting. I followed the recommended steeping instructions and used one heaping teaspoon for my six-ounce cup with water that was brought close to a boil. I steeped the tea for three minutes.
The first sip finished with a delicious blend of flowers and very sweet fruit. I found it difficult to pick out the individual ingredients in this blend, but the taste is very fruity and tropical without one element taking the spotlight. The sencha is nicely matched with these flavors as well and the tea is not masked by the strength of the other ingredients. I imagine this would be excellent iced on a nice hot day. Unfortunately for me, winter is just around the corner and iced tea will have to wait until spring or at least a fall day that reaches above 50°. For those interested in tropical flavored green tea, this one does not disappoint.
