This is my first sample from Red Leaf Tea and I feel like I’m off to a good start. I was excited to try this tea because I love the taste of pomegranate, but I’m just a bit too lazy most of the time to go through the hassle of cleaning and eating the actual fruit. I was hoping this would fill that void and thankfully I wasn’t disappointed. According to the website, the tea contains only three ingredients, white tea, rosehips, and safflower threads, which leaves me to wonder where/how the pomegranate is worked inI followed the recommendations on the Red Leaf Tea website and used one teaspoon with six ounces of water heated to 170° and a five minute steep. The scent of the tea reminds me a bit of raspberry and is surprisingly strong. This smell dissipates during the steeping and the slightly rose colored liquid is left with very little aroma.
While it’s not exactly the same as having a bit of the fruit, the flavor comes through nicely in this tea. After my first sip, I felt short-changed, as the fruitiness didn’t seem bold enough for my taste. But after waiting a few brief moments, the flavor filled in nicely and blended perfectly with the white tea. I wouldn’t classify this as a bold tea, but you don’t need to go searching for the pomegranate either. It’s light and delicate but clearly present. This would be a great tea to try if you enjoy lighter flavors. Also, as a nice bonus, Red Leaf Tea is still offering free shipping on orders of any size.
