The small leaves of this tea are not surprising since many flavoured blends use average teas for the base, letting the flavours take centre stage. Sometimes the practice works, and sometimes it doesn't, and while the leaves of this blend are tiny, they smell like candy. And I love candy. Love it. At the time I'm writing this review, this blend isn't on the Simpson & Vail website, so I don't know exactly what ingredients are in this tea or what it costs, so I con't be taking those into account in the review.Without any hints from the company on how to steep this, I stole Laura's idea from her review and steeped it for 3 minutes in below boiling water. The watermelon flavour stands out the most, so if you really want to taste the kiwi, you may be disappointed here. I find I really enjoy their choice of flavouring. It's fun and fruity, but that's all it is. I cannot taste the base tea at all below the flavours.
Iced, this tea is cool and refreshing, and the addition of sweetener helps draw out the kiwi taste. My husband would definitely drink it by the gallon, except that he hates anything melon-flavoured, so I guess only my theoretical non-picky husband would drink this. But he'd love it. The bottom line of this blend is that it has good, interesting flavours but a disappointing base tea. Depending on how much it costs (from the look of Simpson & Vail's other teas, it's probably very reasonable) I may buy some for hot days. If they reworked the blend and gave it a base tea that could hold its own, I'd definitely buy some.
