"Of all the teas, White Tea has the most delicate flavor. Lightly dried and uncured, white tea leaves accept sweetening well. We carefully suffused a light champagne into the herbs and created a new tea blend that truly melds the freshness of safflowers, red raspberry and white wine champagne, while retaining its delicate original taste. Best enjoyed as an afternoon tea, our Champagne White Raspberry Tea is a gourmet's delight." ---Red Leaf Tea website.Champagne Infused Tea?? What an interesting idea! And why has no one done this before? I just received a fresh batch of samples today and a number of them sounded delicious, but the aroma of this one stole the show! The first word that came into my head when I initially smelled it was effervescent. The next thing that I noticed was that it smelled sweet and fruity. The aroma reminded me of a candy that I have had before. I had trouble pinpointing it for a bit and then it came to me...it smells kinda like the way Pop Rocks taste. It smells a little acidic yet sweet.
The taste is of a decent quality white tea with with a touch of grape and a splash of champagne. While Red Leaf Tea describes this as being raspberry flavored, it tastes more like grape/muscat to me. The champagne flavor is fairly delicate, and it is more like notes of champagne if you pay attention. One thing to note is that I could taste more of the champagne nuances as this cup cooled. This also offered up a satisfying second infusion in which the white tea took centerstage. There was still a nice grapey backdrop, but just some glimmers of the champagne flavor made their way across my tongue.
Overall, I am very impressed with this blend. This is most definitely one of the best white tea blends that I have had in a very long time and it already ranks amongst my favorites. I love the delicious grape/muscat (er, raspberry) flavor in this and I am pretty impressed with the white tea that Red Leaf uses in their white tea blends. It is of a very nice quality. Further, this gets substantial points for being innovative and unique. Kudos to the folks at Red Leaf Tea who came up with this blend as it is so nicely done and delicious.
