I was introduced to the wonderful world of mojitos a few years ago during a trip to Miami. While the ingredient list is simple, the variation and amount of ingredients used to make a mojito can vary quite a bit from place to place. Sometimes mint is the main component, other times it may be the lime or the rum. It’s tough to beat a well-balanced mojito and it is now my mixed drink of choice, second only to the lime margarita. Needless to say, when I saw the tea version of this drink I was excited to give it a try.Mojito Mint is a bagged variety from Zhena’s Gypsy Tea. Upon opening my sample, the first scent to greet me was that of mint and it was very difficult to isolate the other ingredients. I was a bit worried that the mint would overpower this blend. I prepared my cup using water that was brought to a boil and allowed to cool for a few minutes. My three-minute steep produced a mint-heavy brew that was followed by a lemon flavor. This surprised me a bit as I was expecting lime. Sadly, I wasn’t really able to detect the rum flavor and overall, this tea reminded me of an herbal due to the overpowering mint. I wouldn’t recommend this for someone looking for the tea version of a mojito, but if you enjoy a strong mint flavor you will like this tea.
