Troy’s Teaview Snapshot
"A great blend of Mint and Gunpowder green, if a little strong on the Mint."
|
While I'm not generally a fan of blending herbals with tea, I have to admit that this blend is a beautiful mix. Ok so its not a truly authentic Moroccan mint tea. While true Moroccan mint tea is made with Gunpowder green (a brilliant form factor BTW), it is not blended with dried mint, but rather prepared with the freshest mint available, and a sizable amount of sugar.Still if cultural and historical accuracy mean nothing to you, which would put you in the same massive group as the rest of us, these pedantic failings will also mean nothing to you. It certainly meant nothing to the 2009 panel of the "Great Taste Awards" A group so prestigious I couldn't even access their website, not sure if its defunct, or just down for the moment, but since I can't see it, I can hardly speak to it.
What I can speak to is the wonderful minty scent of the blend, the rich dark grains of Gunpowder Green tea, and the crisp broken flakes of dried mint. The mint is strong on the nose, both dry and wet, but is probably of no more remarkable quality than any other, the gunpowder green, on the other hand, looks rich, dark, shiny, and well formed, in fact it almost seems a crime to cover it up with so much mint.
When brewed neither the mint nor the Gunpowder adds much color to the cup, but the flavor is there, it has the wonderful "sprouts and gum" flavor I've come to expect of good Gunpowder, although it is somewhat hard to taste through the mint. I'd say its a good blend overall, but if your not a great fan of mint, you might want to look elsewhere. Still, even with shipping, the price is fairly reasonable, and it would make an excellent gift for a friend just easing into tea.
