I'm very close to flying a white flag in terms of flowering teas. No matter how cool or hot the water, no matter the filtration, no matter the steep time mine never seem to blossom, but rather just spill into a mess of shredded petals and white leaves. Maybe my water is too hard, or maybe the dark lords of coffee have spoiled my teapots in retribution. Much to my chagrin, the little bulb of leaves just float and scatter, and this was no exception. Or so I thought.I made two whole steeps, but was still not impressed by the bloom, although the flavor was less of a bitter mess than most. Usually the very teas that make blooming teas beautiful don't stand up to the long steep times that such beauty requires, but this did alright. Its not something you'd serve for its flavor, but if you have a pitcher on display as a center-piece it'll definitely be worth pouring a cup.
After the third steep, the "I'm sure this is never going to bloom right in my water" steep, the bloody thing decided to go and get all dolled up on me. The feeble, fragile yellow bloom started to extend on a string of popcorn like white blossoms. The tea leaves opened wide, revealing rich orange petty coats, and filled the cup with beauty. I would recommend a large clear pitcher or cup as this really needs room to extend, I'd also recommend a good three min steep before the main event, just to spare them the wait. Other than that, very beautiful, and drinkable.
