necessiteas-strawberry-bana.jpgThe Necessiteas has consistently gotten high reviews for their expertly-flavoured blends, including this particular beauty. This has mid-sized dark green leaves strewn with huge chunks of strawberry and banana - a welcome effort to make steeping the leaf as pleasant an experience as drinking the tea. The leaves smell mostly of banana, but you can pick out the strawberry if you try, and while good, I'm concerned that I smell some artificiality.

After three minutes in just under boiling water, the scent was much weaker that I would prefer, but the flavour came out strong enough. The banana tasted real, but somehow the cup as a whole has an underlying artificiality, and though it had a touch of bitterness, I consider it a negligible amount. It blended together well, and the flavour was decent, but for the first cup I mostly just felt uninspired.

A few days later, I brought the rest of the sample over to a friend's house to serve with Thanksgiving dinner, and as they all sat around saying, "Mmmm, I thought I didn't even like flavoured teas," I rethought this blend and cleared my head for a second cup. I'm not sure what difference a few days made (maybe I was in a bad mood when writing the first tasting notes), but this tea is nearly everything you could hope from it. It tastes like strawberry and banana, it is blended well, it settles amazingly after a giant turkey dinner. It isn't the best green tea I have ever had, but it's good enough that I would definitely buy some if ordering from The Necessiteas.
