Review: Tea Forte Bombay Chai

Now that the colder weather is starting to come in, I have been craving some chai. Nothing seems to warm me up better using the spices associated with the season. My sample of Bombay Chai from Tea Forte came in its own package with their signature tea infuser. All very upscale and I can see Tea Forte’s selections being served in spas or resorts. I have to admit to being rather surprised by their “silken tea infuser” as it appears to be made of plastic and not something that I would be able to recycle.The scent of the dry tea is slightly spicy. I am able to pick out the cinnamon and cloves with just a touch of ginger. I did use their infuser rather than cutting it open as some of our reviewers have done in the past. Following the instructions on the website, I used boiling water and let it steep 4 minutes. The aroma wafting from my cup is a comforting one though I am not able to pick out any one scent. They all blend together so well. The taste itself is well rounded and robust enough to support the cream and sweetening that any good chai needs. Tea Forte Bombay Chai is a mellow chai and perfect for folks that don’t care for stronger chais. Personally I found it bland as I really prefer spice in my chai.
The cost is also slightly prohibitive in my mind as the infusers range from $1.00 to $1.20 a piece. Just a tab bit much for a tea that I am drinking regularly at home. I could see using them for an event though such as a shower or wedding reception. Tea Forte however does offer a loose leaf option that is much more affordable and better for the environment.
