Among other things, the site describes this blend as carrying a supple smoke. I would argue that the tea would qualify as a smoke tea. That doesn't make it bad, but the smoky overtone rules supreme among the other flavors. This fact remains true for the texture as well, summarily presenting this as a 'smoke tea.'Although the directions allow one to two teaspoons of the leaves per cup, I found that the single spoon was much smoother. Even then, it is a very hearty tea. Among others of its kind, this is Thanksgiving dinner. It makes no attempts to kiss the hidden corners of the tastebuds, instead focusing on delivering an enjoyable and filling experience.
It's fair to claim a nutty background and its fair to claim the presence of the pine, as the site does. Both play a role in the resulting liquid, but this only furthers the sense of sipping some strange liquified version of a smokehouse or a wood grill. It is loud and deep and burrows constantly, like a rich cigar.
In the end, this is a very strong brew, the kind that could only be blended with black leaves. It is difficult to identify a target audience but the fact that I keep going back to it, brewing another cup, tells me that it has value. I suppose I would recommend it to those who prefer thick-textured teas with extremely bold flavor.
