Simpson and Vail is one of the first tea vendors I stumbled upon when I really started getting into tea. I ordered one of their catalogues, starred every tea I wanted to try-and never got around to ordering from them (I think I got distracted by a few glossier tea companies). Needless to say, I was happy to see there were a few teas from them that I could sample-finally I'll get to see if its worth going back to that catalogue and placing an order.The Kiwi Watermelon was my first pick because you usually see kiwi strawberry, and this blend has watermelon instead. Watermelon teas are hard to come by (if anyone knows of a good one, please let me know!), and whenever I find one, I must try it.
Simpson and Vail doesn't disappoint on this first blend. My first cup is iced and overall pleasant. It's very fruity, I was actually surprised by the full-bodied flavor. The only thing is, the sweetness of the kiwi is a little artificial tasting, though not so much so that it puts me off. This is marvelous iced-it almost tastes as if a splash of fruit juice has been added.
I brewed up my hot tea next, letting it steep for three minutes. The tea is perfect and not at all bitter (not something to take for granted with a flavored black tea). My cup has an aroma that slightly resembles watermelon bubble yum gum, without the sugary sweet aspect. When brewed hot, there's no artificial taste, which is the first thing I noticed when I took my first sip.
The only reason I didn't give this a ten is for the slight artificial taste when iced, which I'm quite willing to overlook in the overall picture-I just thought I should make people aware of the slight imperfection.
