Wet, the mixture produces such a strong minty smell that it almost makes your eyes water. The liquor is a golden brownish-green color that combines the fragrances of mint with ginger.
I steeped one teaspoon of tea in eight ounces of water for five minutes. The beverage surprised me with its full body and interesting combination of flavors. Rather than all blended together, it almost seemed like you could decide whether to focus on and experience the taste of black tea, mint or ginger. At least that was what I found the first and second times I tried this tea. The third time I just tasted mint. So perhaps it is mood dependent or perhaps it a matter of how much of what makes it into your measuring spoon. I certainly enjoyed my fist two cups more than the third.
My major complaint about many teas I review is that they have almost no taste. This is certainly not the case for Purity. There is much flavor; I’m just not certain that I’m a big believer in mixing ginger and mint. It feels a bit to me like cooking Asian food using olive oil. Don’t they belong to different families? Finally, the Tavalon website alludes to this tea as having balancing, energizing and detoxifying properties. If you like mint tea, it may be worth a try.
