The spongy and earthy aroma matches the burnt brown and black flakes of dried tea. This is pine forest strong in both presence and aura. It's a hearty introduction to a thick tea with a robust flavor. That scent with the breadth and depth of a cigar settles into a familiar tea aroma post-steep. It maintains the hefty presence of its dry form but rounds the spectrum to become a tea. This is a darjeeling with an accurate median of bitterness and a thick texture. The flavor is coarse while the liquid pours over the tongue smoothly. It's edgy enough to uphold the darjeeling name and perfectly drinkable. The flavor recedes with fair consistency, despite spikes in bitterness, lingering for about seven or eight seconds after swallowing. It leaves the mouth warm but not overly dry.
This is an autumn tea. It has force and volume and demands the attention of the one with the cup. It makes no effort to be pretty or suave. It is the rough and rugged blatancy of an outlaw's sack of tea. On the power scale, this is about as strong as it gets without violating the basic tea law.
