mightyleafrenewal"Rooibos Renewal rooibos tea is a mineral rich herbal tea blend comprised of rooibos, also known as Red Tea, from South Africa. Rooibos combined with Vitamin C-rich orange peels and flowers yields a calming, nurturing blend culminating in a gentle mélange of citrus and honey tones." ---Mighty Leaf website.

Every now and then I find myself passing over a tea that smells particularly wonderful and delicious at that moment for one that I 'need'. Tonight is one of those times as I feel as though I might want to come down with something... I was actually eyeballing an earl grey creme blend that smelled particularly delicious, but I know that this one might potentially benefit me more, so it got moved to front and center. While Mighty Leaf's description of this tea mentions that rooibos is a red tea, this actually contains green rooibos. I come across green rooibos far less in blends than red, and I am not sure why as its flavor profile is quite agreeable. Mighty Leaf lists the ingredients in this as green rooibos, flavors, orange peels, rose petals and blue mallow flowers. My sample package is indicative of those ingredients as there are some orange peels and small flower petal shreds throughout the green rooibos base. The aroma coming from the sample package is that of a mild citrus and somewhat perfumey from the flowers.

I prepared this using water that had been brought to a full boil and infused for about 5-6 min. The flavor profile is a bit unusual and this is in part due to the green rooibos base. The taste of the blend is that of the green rooibos with a bit of citrus and some floral high notes. It is very naturally sweet and I would use sweetener sparingly with this one. While this is somewhat enjoyable, I think the floral is a bit too perfumey for me overall. Somehow the whole cup just kinda doesn't harmonize in a way that makes my tastebuds beg for more. I did, however, find that this cup became better as it cooled. The citrus and floral found a better balance at cooler temperatures.

This blend actually received some pretty good reviews on Mighty Leaf's website, so you might consider checking out those comments before making a purchase decision. However, while I did not find the cup to be terrible or anything, it just doesn't cross into the realm of being a blend that I would add to my personal tea stash.

I have not tried roooibos tea yet, even though I have heard so many wonderful things about it. If I do, I’ll try the Wisdom of the Ancients brand of rooibos as I greatly trust the brand.

    This blend sounds interesting, though!

I really love the fruity flavor of rooibos tea.

Many say that its antioxidant properties are comparable to that of green tea.

But rooibos tea for me is a lot more pleasant-tasting.

    My Rating: 9/10

sorry to inform you but Rooibos has nowhere near the antioxidants that green tea has. Rooibos has some Vitamin C (that the antioxidant) but cannot remotely compare to the vital catechins found in Japanese green tea. Its no wonder Japan leads the world in longevity….where does South Africa place????
