"What is remarkable about this tea is that even though a naturally floral oolong has been blended with four very distinct and strong flowers, the result is smooth and balanced, never even coming close to approaching a soapy or perfumey quality."

Having now sampled a fairly large number of the Naivetea oolong offerings, I can safely say that I enjoy almost all of the tea that this company produces. And their Rose Violet Calendula oolong is no exception. Although I must admit my surprise in that I enjoyed this tea as much as I did. By the name alone, this tea chanced smelling and tasting like bath soaps or potpourri. Indeed, the dry blend did have an abundance of flower petals. And according to the website, in addition to rose, violet, and calendula, they also added some jasmine. I was a bit worried that this would be a floral overload; it wasn't, though. What is remarkable about this tea is that even though a naturally floral oolong has been blended with four very distinct and strong flowers, the result is smooth and balanced, never even coming close to approaching a soapy or perfumey quality. Believe it or not, I could not distinguish the individual rose, violet, calendula and jasmine contributions, and had an overall tough time distinguishing the real flower scents/flavors from those of the oolong. The flowers and the oolong seem to work together effortlessly and the result is a cup that is neither too weak nor too flowery, but maintains a nice overall flavor that is floral and grainy at the same time. All the ingredients seem to be happy to work together. As with other Naivetea blends, this tea is good for several infusions, although if you plan to really get the most out of your leaves, each individual infusion should be kept to a short (as in less than 30 seconds) steep time.Bottom line: Despite having a lineup of strong and distinct flower ingredients, this tea is smooth and not overly floral. I would recommend this to anyone looking to try something new, even to those that are not typically big on floral teas.
