bostonoolongvanillalmondThe scent of the vanilla swarms out of the container. With some control over the senses, the almond can be identified. The oolong is not recognizable. Unexpectedly, that overwhelming vanilla scent carries over into the liquid form. It is frequent that strong scents simmer down post-steep, but this blend breaks that rule. For comparison purposes, I pulled out a bottle of pure vanilla extract and breathed in deeply. The two scents are strikingly close. This key factor - an overwhelming vanilla aroma - weighs heavily on the overall value of this tea.

This vanilla dominance continues in the flavor, although it isn't the painful force produced by the aroma. It's much quieter and allows some of the almond into the equation. A soft and round texture eases the tea over the tongue. It is smooth and creamy.

Following these positive attributes of flavor and texture, I began drinking the tea with my nose closed. Despite the fact that this method of consumption improves the quality from fair to quite good, it isn't exactly practical for long-term application. The point of this isn't that the tea is undrinkable or unenjoyable. The point is that the aroma is so thick that it detracts from an otherwise healthy and interesting blend. Alas, the scent comes with the rest of the package, so this is a fair blend with unusual attributes.
