"Light, refreshing Chinese Sencha whole-leaf green tea is enhanced by a host of topical flavor notes, including pineapple pieces, lemon peel and other exotic ingredients. It's lovely and colorful appearance promises an exceptional infusion which is equally delicious served hot or over ice." ---Boston Tea Company website.Wow, this is a visually stunning blend. Boston Tea Company certainly put a lot into this blend. In addition to the green tea, this blend is chock full of ingredients. Not only is there some pineapple and lemon peel as mentioned above, but there are tons of vibrantly colored flower shreds---look to be mostly rose petals and some purple ones that I am thinking are possibly violets?
I scooped this generously and infused the leaves for about 2.5 min in water that had been brought to steaming with some bubbles rising to the top of the pot. While the name might suggest that pineapple dominates the flavor profile, I actually found that this was more of a floral green tea with some fruity notes in the background. The Sencha used in this blend is pretty mild and not really vegetal. To me, that is a good thing as you can actually taste the green tea in this one. It is accompanied by a moderately strong floral element that kind of lingers after you swallow. There is a sweetness to this that I believe is the combination of the pineapple and lemon peel though I would not necessarily pick them out as the fruity flavors if I did not know that they were amongst the ingredients.
While I enjoy the way that the addition of the flowers makes this blend look, I could have personally done with a little less flowers and a little more fruit. I was expecting a cup that was dominated by the pineapple flavor and might suggest that this one could be better named. If you'd like a mild Sencha with a moderately strong floral presence, then I would recommend picking up some of this. However, if you are looking for a pineapple flavored green tea, then you might find yourself disappointed with this one. I do not want to imply that this is a bad cup or so floral that it crosses the line into unpleasantness in some way because it does not. However, as I am not the world's biggest fan of floral teas, I would not purchase this one.
