bostonsweetcherry"Sweet cherry is balanced with sweet-tart cranberry and raspberry and blended with tender, young Chinese white tea. Appropriately enjoyed at any time of the day, naturally sweet ans delicate, Sweet Cherry White is naturally low in caffeine and rich in antioxidants." ---Boston Tea Company website.

Let me start by saying that I want to love cherry flavored teas. I love cherries, cherry flavored candies (especially Jolly Ranchers), cherry flavored juice, and the list goes on. However, I have found only a couple of cherry flavored tea offerings that do it for me, and even those could be improved upon. The problem with many of them is that the cherry is accompanied by rose and the combination of rose + cherry creates a flavor profile that I don't particularly care for. Therefore, whenever I come across a cherry flavored tea that is more fruity in nature, I get my hopes up that I am finally going to find a cherry flavored tea that I love, love, love.

While the description of the blend does not indicate that there are roses in it, there are some rose petals in my sample package.. There are also some dried, but plump-looking, cranberry pieces amongst the dry leaves. I scooped this liberally and infused it in water brought to steaming for close to 3 min. I think they should have named this Subtle Cherry White. The prepared cup is of a white tea with a very subtle cherry aftertaste. What you can taste of the fruit is, in fact, a very pleasant cherry flavor---not rose tasting at all. However, this is mostly just tastes like white tea. Further, the white tea base used is not so good that it would make me want to have a cup of this because the white tea is just that good. The white tea is decent, but forgettable. I don't want to give the impression that this is not a decent cup, because there is nothing wrong with it per se. However, in order for this to be something that I would want to purchase, the flavor profile would need to be brought up at least a couple of notches.

I would love to see Boston Tea Company tweak this blend just a bit and bring up the flavor profile. What I could taste of it was actually rather appealing and offered a nice fruity cherry taste. However, it was just too subtle to be something that I would want to add to my personal stash. While this blend may not be for me, it is not terrible by any means and if you are looking for a subtly flavored white tea, then I would not go so far as to discourage anyone from trying it out.
