bostonoolongvanillalmondI infrequently find flavoured oolongs I really enjoy, but I still feel it's a worthwhile cause, as with virtually everything tea-related. The leaves of this particular example are curled, deep brown, and smell amazing. I first tried steeping one teaspoon of leaf at 205 degrees for three minutes. The tea didn't come out nearly to the extent that I wanted, so I tried another cup for four minutes with equally limited success.

In an attempt to get more gusto out of the cup, I tried to steep yet another cup with two teaspoons of leaf at 208 degrees for 4 minutes. The cup still doesn't have the oomph I hoped for, but because I am nearly out of leaf to experiment with, this will be the cup I use to establish my final thoughts on this tea. Besides, I can't really think of any better ideas to bring out more flavour, so maybe this is just the way this tea is meant to be.

In case you didn't catch on with all that extensive rambling, I had a hard time drawing the flavour out of this blend. After three tries, I thinking this is just a tea with a shallower flavour and more watery character. This is disappointing for two reasons: I think this would be better as a bolder tea since the flavours are so rich, and the flavouring is really, really good, so I want more of it.

The tea base stands up reasonably well to the flavouring, and oolong was an excellent pairing choice. So while the oolong itself is good and the added flavours are excellent, the overall package isn't as well-rounded and robust as I want. The tea is interesting, and I am glad I had the chance to try it, but I probably wouldn't buy it for myself. However, this strange experience has definitely made me want to try more Boston Tea Company teas.
