With first glance, anyone can tell this is clearly not an average white tea. The leaves are huge and mostly black with streaks of silver. It looks more like a black tea than anything else, and it smells rich yet delicate. The uniqueness of this white tea continues into the steeping: 208 degree water for four minutes. The tea is yet another interesting specimen from California Tea House. It is mostly sweet with just a hint of savoury flavour. It is certainly not like most white teas, though it distinctly is one. I re-steeped the leaf for five minutes, but found the results relatively bland, so I will use the rest of the sample as a one-steep tea.
With this tea, California Tea House once again proves they are dedicated to their craft. It is interesting and different from any other white teas I have tried, with all the sweetness of a good white without the characteristic delicacy. It is unique in that it is unlike most white teas, yet you can't properly compare it to any other genre of leaf.
And now to explain why I didn't give this tea a stellar rating. This is where I have a hard time putting a number on a tea and why I hope the average reader at least glances over the reviews rather than just the number. I didn't find this tea particularly to my liking, and I probably wouldn't buy more for myself, but I am glad I had the opportunity to try it. I recommend if you get the chance to try it, too, since you may fall in love with it.
