Thumbs up!"The fruity-floral additions and the grassy green tea blend quite harmoniously to produce an easy-drinking and satisfying green tea; a high-quality and well-blended cherry sencha that I would not hesitate to recommend. "

americanteakabukiKabuki is a Japanese green tea, which blends lightly steamed sencha with cherry blossoms and violet leaves. There is no ingredients list on the website nor on my package, so I can only assume that no other flavorings (artificial or natural) are included in this blend. The dry blend is quite pleasing to the eye, with the pink, yellow and purple flower petals contrasting nicely with the deep emerald green sencha leaves. The aroma is that of a flowery sweetness, but the grassiness of the sencha is still present too. I would suggest that you mix the tea well before scooping out your leaves for infusion, just to make sure you get adequate representation of each component, since the differently-sized particles will settle out in the package. Following recommendations, I prepared this tea with a two minute infusion in steaming water. The result is a clear yellowish-green broth with an intoxicatingly sweet, fruity aroma. The cherry flavor is so clear that it almost crosses my mind that it can’t possibly be natural. However, I believe it is natural because the website only lists cherry blossoms and violets in the description and, furthermore, American Tea Room tends to serve finer teas so I don’t think they would offer products laden with artificial ingredients. As my mouth approached the cup, the cherry aroma was intense and, I must admit, quite likeable. The flavor is very smooth; neither the fruity-floral additions nor the grassy green tea really overwhelm the palette. Instead, they blend quite harmoniously to produce an easy-drinking and satisfying green tea. The fruit and floral flavors tend to linger in the mouth long after the sencha flavor has disappeared. I did note that this tea was just a little too sweet for me, but that is just my personal preference; still, this tea is a high-quality and well-blended cherry sencha that I would not hesitate to recommend.
