Coffeewiz.com is probably wise to send some loose tea samples out to blogs for review because it is not the sort of place that I, for one, would consider when it comes to purchasing loose tea. Most coffee places offer tea only as an afterthought and most of them don't do tea well. Anyway, I would never have thought to check out their site looking for loose tea and, even if I did stumble across them, I would probably have been reluctant to order from them.

The aroma coming from my sample package of this JAF Mango Banana Tea is very tropical smelling and dominated by bananas more than mangoes. There are also little pieces of banana chips amongst the dark Ceylon leaves and I do appreciate all the little extras. One thing about this blend is that the black tea used in it is not particularly of a high quality and it took me two preparations to get a cup that didn't bitter. I found that this blend tasted best with water temps right around 195-200 degrees with a 3 min infusion time. Once you get the cup properly prepared, this is actually better than expected. The banana definitely takes centerstage here. It is surprisingly natural tasting and is complemented by the mango in the background. I did find that I enjoyed this best with a pinch of rock cane sugar added as it brought out some additional sweetness in the banana flavor, but this one can stand on its own too for those morally opposed to adding sweetener. Further, I found that this took a splash of dairy well. I also think that this one is a great candidate for iced tea.

Overall, the flavor profile was actually pretty good and offered a nice, natural tasting banana flavor. While the mango takes a backseat to the banana on this one, its presence makes this a nice tropical cup of tea. The drawback to this one is the black tea base. It is somewhat disappointing and bitters easily requiring careful attention when steeping. If they had just paired this with a better tea base, this would have scored much higher as the flavor profile is quite good. However, at just $4.25 for 100 grams of this, it is a decent cup at a great price. This one is definitely worth consideration and especially for those with a tight tea budget or just looking for a great value.
