Awhile back, I sent off a review of TeaGschwendner’s Coconut White Tea. While I mostly enjoyed it, I was a bit let down by the “subdued” flavor of the coconut in the blend. As a response to my review, Tea Gschwendner contacted me with the recommendation that I try Green Coconut and a week or so later, a sample arrived at my door.The blend consisted of a Japanese Sencha base, with shredded coconut and natural flavors. I was excited to try this tea and upon opening the bag, I was greeted with an intense coconut aroma that was sweet and rich. The tea was a vibrant green with white flecks and shreds of coconut mixed throughout. I prepared my cup by using one heaping teaspoon and a two-minute steep with water brought to a boil and allowed to cool. The smell of the coconut never faded during this process and the resulting pale golden liquid carried the same potent scent as the dry loose leaf.
I anxiously waited for my cup to cool and took my first sip. The tea was delicious and for a coconut lover it was nothing short of heavenly. The flavor is clear and the finish is rich and buttery, lingering on the tongue and leaving you with a smile. I would not recommend this for those who prefer a light or delicate flavor. However, if you enjoy a strong, clear coconut taste, this tea should be at the top of your list.
