Occasionally I am just in the mood for a bagged tea as they take so much less preparation then loose teas. So I am always on a lookout for ones that don’t strangle the tea leaves and that I can recycle. Two Leaves and a Bud make their tea sachets out of biodegradable cornstarch based nylon which pleases my tree hugger sensibilities. And the tea leaves appear to be whole. So far so good.I set out to brew my sachet of Acai white tea using water that had cooled from a boil about 4 minutes and let it steep for 5 minutes. What is nice is that on the freshness wrapper of each sachet, there is a steep time so no need to keep the box if you have prettier storage containers. The liquor that resulted was a rather light golden color with a slight aroma of fruit. I have never tried acai berries but I assume that was the aroma I picked up.
The taste itself is light, almost like drinking air with a refreshingly tart fruity aftertaste. If this is the taste of acai berries then I have to say that I really like it. The white tea base itself is not a strong one at all so this wouldn’t be a tea to drink if you are looking for a more robust white tea. It is there as a carrier for the acai taste. The phrase that comes to mind as I sip this cup is “How refreshing”.
I have a couple more samples of Two Leaves and a Bud that I am really looking forward to trying. They also offer loose teas (though unfortunately not this particular blend) on their site as well as teaware. Right now they have 20% off selected loose teas. Pop over and check them out.
