Thumbs up!"This blend is simultaneously spicier and less bitter than the Darjeeling median, but certainly enjoyable nonetheless."

americanputtabongThis second flush Darjeeling presents elements of smoke, pepper, and musk. As the title implies, it arrives from the Puttabong Garden in India. Post-steep, elements of redwood and additional spices enter the aroma.

Initial impact includes a smoky pepper flavor, an effect that quickly rounds out to a smooth spice packet. With a bolder presentation of spice and less bitterness than the Darjeeling median, this is closer to a non-denominational black tea than it is to a Darjeeling. The texture is softer, despite the kick at the tip of the tongue, and the residing flavors dissipate gently.

Despite these variances, the tea balances the heavier spice with the reduced bitterness to present something still in the Darjeeling spirit. This is a fine pick for those seeking black teas. This is a fine pick for those adamant on Darjeelings.
