hibisca-750I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of hibiscus. It has its place, but it tends to end up in way more teas and herbals than I would prefer. This leads me to be somewhat skeptical of products that emphasize hibiscus, since I'm worried they'll be too similar to thousands of other products on the market. I expected this to be sour and uninteresting, but the idea is intriguing enough it seemed worth a shot.

I decided to try the rich wine-coloured liquid plain first. One sip, and I am pleasantly surprised. It is delectably sweet without being syrupy, distinctly hibiscus without being tangy, and notably spiced without being sharp. It is smooth and distinct and really, really good.

Now for the booze. Two shots Hibisca, one shot vodka, one-half shot lime juice. I am in fruity-girly-boozy heaven. I could drink this every night and be happy. Later, I sip on a shot of straight Hibisca again, and while it is sweet and strong, I have yet to tire of the flavour.

I would gladly add this to mix drinks, soda water, fruit, ice cream, smoothies, and anything else I could find an excuse to dump it in to. It is delicious and unique, and I had best go add the rest to some Stolichnaya before anyone else in the house discovers it.

One Response to “Review: Hibisca”

  1. Katie Says:

I realised awhile back that they sent a Hibisca t-shirt with this sample. Since it may be illegal for me to accept it as a gift, I figure I’ll avoid any risk and just review it, too, so I can just also consider it a sample.

This 100% cotton t-shirt is a size large with a white base, making it almost completely useless for me, much like my work shirt, which is also a t-shirt with a white base, and size L. Why does no one ever supply smalls? In fact, I accidentally wore my Hibisca shirt to work once, and it took me 4 hours to notice. No one said a thing.

Now I can secretly rebel at my job by wearing the wrong shirt and acting surprised if anyone notices. But no one will because no one cares. I often just let my husband wear it when his laundry runs low, which is great because the logo is the exact beautiful shade of pink that’s on the bottle. It’s stunning.
