Vanessa’s Teaview Snapshot
|"Fruity, floral and woodsy notes are all intertwined, with a characteristic Darjeeling astringent finish"|
Darjeeling has been my tea of choice over the last couple of weeks, and while I have been tending towards the first flush varieties, I was also looking forward to sampling some second flush offerings. Serendipitea’s Selimbong Estate Darjeeling Second Flush is described as having a “unique floral aroma” and delivering a “full, brisk cup”. I always appreciate a tea vendor that accurately describes their products, and Serendipitea seems to have hit the nail on the head here. Both the dry leaves and the brewed tea offer a unique aroma with floral elements in it. The tea’s flavor is fresh and brisk, hearty enough to be a great morning brew, but not so heavy as to be “too much” for these hot Miami summer days I am currently experiencing. This is an interesting tea in that it can be mindlessly sipped and enjoyed, but when I really focus on the flavor, I am impressed with the depth and complexity of flavors. Fruity, floral and woodsy notes are all intertwined here, but no one element being an overpowering contributor. This tea has the characteristic Darjeeling astringent finish, but certainly nothing that is unpleasantly bitter. I have enjoyed this tea as a morning brew for three days now, and am sad to see my sample running low. This tea was not the most outstanding tea I have had, but it is a good second flush Darjeeling, and a great option for an everyday tea. What I like about this tea is that it works well as an easy-drinking tea but also accommodates those times when I am feeling more pensive about my tea-drinking experience. This tea is tasty, organic, fair trade, and also fairly priced, and thus is one I would recommend.
