tigerspringlazygreenSometimes I want a green tea, and sometimes I don't want to put any effort into said cup of green. This combination usually results in my drinking genmaicha, but every once in a long while I crave a more pure tea experience, and those days I'm pretty much hooped. "Easy" is not a word that pairs well with "good green tea." They're touchy and it's obvious why I can get behind something called Lazy Green Tea.

The website says to steep this at 90°C for 2-3 minutes. In a test of how easy this is to brew, I made sure the water wasn't yet boiling but didn't bother watching it carefully enough to see how much below boiling the water was then guesstimated a two-minute timing. The dark, small, tightly-curled leaves quickly expand into jade-coloured beauties - not too large, but full and appealing. The cup's aroma is rich and full, deep yet vibrant.

The taste matches the nose in both boldness and profile. It has a rich brothy quality with a classic Chinese-style green flavour, though it is from Vietnam. Despite my indulgent laziness, the cup is neither astringent nor bitter, and the flavour has depth enough to make me assume the temperature also wasn't too low.

The name of this tea doesn't lie - it certainly is a cup for the lazy, the hurried, or anyone who wants a cup of green but doesn't have the right equipment on hand to deal with a finicky leaf. It's a good tea to keep on hand at work or for travelling. As well as being easy to make, the tea is delicious and up to standard, and I'd happily keep a bit on hand for the days when putting effort into my cup just seems like too much work.
