I've been watching a British series on Netflix called Larkrise to Candleford and the program features a delightful character who quickly becomes known to the viewer by her oft repeated comment about various things being her "one weakness." I find that I feel just this way about tea. I'll drink oolong for a time and feel that it's my "one weakness" in the tea world, then stumble into a superb Assam and feel the same...before long, a wonderfully delicate white tea will captivate me and then I'll invariably feel convinced that my one true weakness is Yunnan Black, after all. So for the purposes of this review, let me just quote Dorcas Lane and say that "Yunnan Blacks are my One Weakness..."

It's been a while since I've enjoyed any Yunnan teas (despite them being my one weakness!) and so it was with a happy nose that I opened my sample package of My Urban Tea's Yunnan Black offering. The leaves are medium length and mostly a dark chocolate color with a fair amount of milk chocolate leaves interspersed. The dry leaf smells of tobacco and wonderfully spicy and chocolatey as well.

I allow the tea to steep at a ratio of one teaspoon of leaf to 8 ounces of just boiled water and give four minutes to the infusion.

A dark caramel copper cup results and while the first sips were not disappointing, I found that this tea really comes into its own flavor wise as it cools slightly in the cup. While first sips seem a little lacking in body (though not in taste), as the tea cools just slightly, the body alters quite a bit. The tea becomes more viscous with wonderful caramel notes of sweetness and a heavier, tobacco-esque aroma permeating with notes of blackberry peeking in at the finish. A reliable second infusion is to be had from this tea, though I think the first shines brighter. This is a good, solid yunnan offering that will not disappoint!
