I love it when I find a tea company that specializes in Organic and Fair Trade teas! Arbor Teas even offers a "Tea of the Month" club, and has a nice selection of teapots, cups and accessories!

Makaibari Estate Darjeeling is an Organic and Fair Trade certified Tea. It is an early spring, "first flush" tea. It is considered a black tea, but has some look and qualities of being a green darjeeling. It is recommended that this tea be brewed using water a little cooler than a normal black tea and a little shorter brewing time.

I was impressed when I opened the package and found the tea to look exactly like the picture on the website! That doesn't happen very often. I brewed it, just as suggested, using water before it came to boil and set my timer for a minute less than usual.

Darjeeling is often called the "Champagne" of teas, and I must say this is the "Champagne of Champagne" teas! It is light and I suggest anyone trying this tea taste it before adding any milk or sweetener. If you must add milk or sugar, err on the light side! It's easy to overpower this tea.

It brews up a lovely light golden copper. It smells of fresh tea leaves, with floral and quiet notes of wine. It's a very dry tea - like champagne. Like many Darjeeling's, it is astringent, and leaves my mouth feeling dry after every sip.

The taste is great - with a variety of flavor notes swirling over my tongue - lemony, floral and dry!!!

I find it difficult to give this tea a rating. Based on my own preference, I would probably only purchase this tea again as a useful blending tea because of the dry, astringency. But that is my personal taste. I would highly recommend this tea as it is clearly a high quality Darjeeling, and I know that there are many connoisseurs out there who would love the champagne dryness of this tea!

I can't wait to try more tea from Arbor Teas!
