|"A very smooth and full bodied example of a Golden Monkey. Delicious! Highly recommended!"|
I haven't made a secret of the fact that Golden Monkey happens to be one of my favorite black teas and I am always up to trying a new one. This one comes to me from Tao Tea Leaf which is a Canadian company. I don't tend to see very many of those around so I am always happy to run across them.
For a black tea, this one is simply stunning. Long thin leaves in the colors of gold and olive green. I would say that the ration is about 40% gold to 60% olive. A lot more gold presence than my ever day golden monkey. The aroma is malty with a faint hints of cut grass.
I made this tea up using my IngeniTea brewer. I used 1 1/2 teaspoons of leaves to 12 ounces of boiling water let cool for a couple minutes. I let it steep for 3 minutes. I did make the mistake of not reading the recommendations first for the time but it all worked out. The resulting liquor is a pale golden brown with a wet nose of malt and clover honey.
I do have to say that all the extra gold sure makes a difference. This has to be one of the better Golden Monkey teas that I have tried. Very smooth tea that is full bodied. You pick up the flavors of honey, malt, and a light caramel taste. The texture is rather creamy for a black tea. This is the first time I have tried this variety of black tea and didn't pick up bits of a cocoa flavor but I didn't feel as though I was missing out in the least.
I really enjoyed this tea and probably would stock it if it was sold in a larger quantity then 25 grams especially if there was a price break for purchasing it that way. Though they do carry a lot of interesting teas so as a treat I can see myself tossing some into the cart.
