Vanessa’s Teaview Snapshot
|"This tea offers the classic muscatel flavors that one expects of a Darjeeling with a premium level of freshness and authenticity. "|
A long time ago, I favored second flush Darjeelings. Then more recently, I converted to a first flush fan. Now, I consider myself a big fan of both. Today I sampled Darjeeling Tea Exclusive's China FTGFOP1 Jungpana '10 Second Flush. This is my first experience with Darjeeling Tea Exclusive, and from this sample it is clear that this is a very authentic tea company. The sample came packaged in a thick foil-lined bag with the necessary label information hand-written. Inside the packet, an attractive blend of green and brown leaves awaited me. The leaves exuded a fragrant muscatel-biscuity aroma. I used just-under-boiling water and a three minute infusion. The tea has the characteristic Darjeeling muscatel essence, and this muscatel flavor is the highlight of the tea. There is a little bit of a bitterness in the tea, but it is relatively mild and does not keep this from being a smooth tea. A floral note is so subtle it is almost elusive. The tea does seem a little greener in flavor than most other second flush Darjeelings I have had, although I question if it is only because this tea seems much fresher than others I have had. The overall body is not too heavy and the tea is an easy-drinking brew, although the flavor is certainly not weak. This tea offers the classic muscatel flavors that one expects of a Darjeeling with a premium level of freshness and authenticity. This is certainly among the best second flush Darjeelings I have had, so this is one I would recommend to others. This tea is high quality but without the high price tag, making it even more appealing.
