|"A good solid example of a Golden Monkey but don't be fooled by the cocoa aroma in the dry leaf. "|
My sample is very enticing with deep brown wiry leaves mixed with gold. The aroma is what knocked my socks off. It reminded me rich mug of hot cocoa. Just perfect for a cold fall evening. I set it up to brew using the black tea settings on my triniTea and a steep time of 3 minutes.
The liquor brews up to a golden reddish brown. The cocoa aroma that I so fell in love with has faded away to the barest hint with the maltiness shining thru. The taste is smooth with just a hint of astringency, just enough to cause a slight dryness to the tongue. It has a malty taste with a bit of oak mixed in. I am not able to pick up any cocoa flavor in the liquor. Slightly disappointing but overall this is a good example of a Golden Monkey.
This isn't a tea that I would stock as I love the chocolate flavors that you can pick up in some golden monkey teas. However it is a good solid tea and it is even on sale right now. And it is stout enough to handle cream and sugar if that is your preference. Well worth keeping in your personal stock as the price is right.
