|"...the black tea was the most pronounced aspect with the berries quietly lingering in the back."|
The Chinese black tea base is mixed with currants, cranberries, strawberries, elderberries, and calendula petals. With the exception of an added natural berry flavoring, all the ingredients are organic. The black tea is small and wiry and carries a faint smoky scent. Many of the berry pieces are large and easily recognizable. My particular sample was sent in a 100% compostable cellulose film bag with steeping suggestions and a brief company history printed on the back. Following the steeping suggestions, I used one generous teaspoon in boiling water with a three minute steep.
With the large amount of berries present, I was expecting a super fruity flavor to emerge from my cup. Instead, the black tea was the most pronounced aspect with the berries quietly lingering in the back. The addition of the fruit did not add a sweet or even a tart component, and I suspect that many would prefer this blend with an added sweetener of choice. I found the tea to be very delicious nonetheless, although I admit I was hoping for a stronger fruit presence. If you were looking for a strong cup of berry tea, this may disappoint. However, this tea would be perfect for those who prefer to let the tea shine amidst the other ingredients.
