The NecessiTeas states that "this is a yummy blend of pineapple, rum, custard, brown sugar and honey". Yet the actual ingredients listed are green tea, pineapple, brown sugar and natural flavors. I guess the rum, custard and honey constitute the natural flavors bit. I'm quite okay with that. When I opened up the sample bag, I was greeted by a rather large pineapple chunk. The rest was simple green tea, but that chunk - wow - that stood right out. Smelling this was like taking a pie to the face. I envy clowns.
Brewing instructions called for 1 tsp in 8oz of boiled water, steeped for three minutes. I agreed with everything but the water temp. Greens - especially a Chinese sencha base - usually stood up well at 170F. This being a blend, I was willing to go as high as 180 but no more than that.
The liquor colored instantly to a foggy sencha green. That and it smelled the same wet as it did dry, like...well...cake! Unlike some other flavored green tea blends that muted on splashdown, this held up its end of the brewing bargain. Pineapple was present on the front, the middle was a mix between sweet and grassy, while the finish ended on a creamy note. It earned its flare respectably.
