I have just been introduced to De Vos Tea. Their website is a bit slow, but very lovely. They are a Canadian based company, and offer some very unique teas and prefer to offer specially crafted teas rather than mass produced teas. I really enjoyed reading through their website. Every tea I looked at had some unique aspect to it and they have great pictures to accompany the descriptions.

Rainforest is a black tea grown on the foothills of the Sinharaja Rainforest, which is in Sri Lanka (well known for Ceylon tea). One of the few virgin rainforests left in the world, this rainforest is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

I have had Sinharaja black tea from a different company and I really loved it. So of course, I was excited to try this tea. The leaves are medium sized and very dark. It has a gentle "celyon" type smell.

I brewed this the same as I do other quality black teas. I used water just as it came to boil, and steeped it for 6 min. De Vos Tea gives brewing suggestions for each tea, but I chose to steep one minute longer as I like a strong, but not bitter black tea.

The tea brews up dark copper and has a mild black tea scent. It is has a natural sweetness and is smooth as velvet on the tongue! It has a bit of a ceylon type of chocolate flavor, yet also has a bit of a nutty flavor as well and finishes with a gentle honey like taste. It takes milk very well, and a bit of sweetener if desired. I used less sugar than normal because of the natural sweetness.

I made a full morning pot of Rainforest this morning and enjoyed it down to the last drop. It doesn't change flavor as it cools, though of course the hottest cups of tea are the best. I could drink this tea every morning and am so excited to find a new favorite black tea!
