White August's Golden Monkey tea has an appearance that just exudes luxuriousness. The leaves are a beautiful mixture of brown and golden colors with a soft and fluffy appearance. The dry leaves have an intoxicating aroma that offers mostly malty notes but also hints at sweet peachy undertones. I added boiling water to the leaves and infused for a little under three minutes. The tea was a dark coffee-colored shade of brown, although far more transparent than coffee. This tea has a rather stout body and certainly will work well as a breakfast tea. As with the aroma, the primary component of the flavor is a maltiness. The tea is naturally sweet too, and requires nothing such as milk and/or sugar to be added. The aftertaste of this tea is perhaps the most enjoyable part of this tea, with a rather noticeable fruity flavor appearing at the rear of each sip and persisting in the mouth long after the tea is swallowed. The fruity flavor is comparable to peach or maybe even berries, without any of the typical berry tartness. My final impression of this tea is that is was highly enjoyable and sturdy black tea. At a cost of $24.95 for 50 grams of leaves, the price of this tea may be perceived as high by many people. However, this price may be justifiable, as this is a high-quality product and White August states that the leaves can be re-steeped (although sadly I was unable to test this for myself).
